Before 2012, I’m pretty much only ran to escape packs of zombies or to catch an ice cream truck.
I turned 30 a few years ago and decided to revisit a mental checklist I grew to call my Things I Should Do Before I Turn 30 list. It included just four things:
1. Jump out of a plane
2. Run a marathon
3. Experience a hurricane
4. Climb a mountain
When I turned 30, I had completed just one of them – skydiving. So now these goals have been folded into the Things I Should Do Before I Turn 40 list, which hasn’t really been defined or thought about much.
Of the remaining three items, one stuck out as being fairly attainable. What was stopping me from running a marathon? There was plenty of space to train. I had worked hard to lose about 40 60 pounds. And I had plenty of friends who were runners.
I started this blog as a means of holding myself accountable for finishing this goal. And on October 28th, 2012, I finished the Marine Corps Marathon.
And I’ve stuck with running. Now I want to be faster and stronger. Stay tuned for those exploits and whatever else might lie along this adventure.
And keep running, friends.
Got something to say? Drop me a line.
